Strategic Storytelling. Lasting Growth.

Intentional Systems Support Employee Retention

I attended a webinar from The Aspen Institute today about improving workforce opportunities in the South, and it made me consider something I hadn’t fully thought about before:

Workforce strategies often focus on getting people in the door, but people don’t stay because of access alone.

They stay — and thrive — when they understand how the organization works, where it’s going, and how they fit into it.

That understanding doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built through intentional internal communication systems and real feedback loops.

If we want stronger workforce outcomes, we can’t just design better pathways in. We have to design better systems once people arrive.

Internal communication isn’t just a business function — it shapes how people experience work. And that has ripple effects far beyond a single organization.
